Hi all,
Reposting this from theallycarter.tumblr.com:
When you make your movie, would you ever consider letting a huge fan being a character/actor in your movies? (: I’ve been doing live Theatre for most of my life (I’m 18), and I’ve grown with the Gallagher Girls, and I would love to be apart of it. (:
ASKED BY effervescenteliza
There MIGHT be a movie based on the Gallagher Girls or Heist Society someday. Maybe. Both properties are under option and people I respect are working toward that goal.
BUT…I am not involved in that process. Nor am I likely to ever be. It simply isn’t the way these things work.
If by some extreme freak circumstance the movies do get made and they have some open casting call and I hear about it (three HUGE ifs) then I will scream it from the rooftops.
In the meantime all I can do is write more books. So that’s what I’m going to do.
Thanks for reading!
Ally
I really hope GG and HS will be made into movies. I love acting and would love to be apart of on of these movies (if they become movies) too! I hope everyone is enjoying their summer!
I’ll be over the moon IF gg and hs get into movies!
i wanted to ask Ally Carter a question
Are you putting up the deleted scenes for United At last like you did for the rest of the books??????
Thanks!
🙂
Just thinking about it possibly becoming a movie makes me get excited!! I really hope everything works out and both become movies!
I really want there to be movies of Gallagher Girls and Heist Society. Just as long as it doesn’t ruin the books because they are so perfect. I know it’s hard to make everything in them but does anyone else feel like the speech is a script and the narration stage directions?
Ally,
I totally get where you are coming from! I have noticed this a question many authors out there are asked-repeatedly! Despite how many times explained it continues to be brought up… I understand that while at least some authors would love having their books made into movies the right opportunities never come up, and very rarely are fans ever invited to audition- especially for major parts.
I just wanted to say that I can see where it would be very annoying to be constantly asked about this. For me while I would love their to be a movie one day in the future, I already have my own opinions on how your characters look and part of me doesn’t want that to be ruined.
Thanks for your amazing books.
Sincerly,

It’s sad that they don’t take the author’s advice more. You are the one who is closest to these characters. You know them inside and out. You would think that they would come to you for ideas or thoughts about casting. I’m sure you have actors in mind for certain characters.
I’ve always pictured Mary-Louise Parker playing Cammie’s mom or Jeremy Renner as Mr. Solomon…OK, I just want to watch Jeremy Renner, BUT, he would be a good Joe.
Ally, if you DID have the ability to pick your dream cast, who would you pick? I’ll pose this to anyone reading this, I’m always curious who other people see in certain roles. 😉
Ohhh that’s so interesting to hear how you picture her!
Personally, I always pictured Rachel to be Lauren Graham, she just fits the description so well! I can see her so much in that maternal role while still being super hot and also being a headmistress. She’s acts as the principal at the kids’ school in The Pacifier if you’re wondering who she is.
She kicks ass in that movie while also being gorgeous, and looking after the kids – she’s perf. :’)
Ohhhh, she would be good!!!!
I would absolutely love Gallagher Girls to become movies!!! It would be awesome if they did have open calls, but again its not like Harry Potter or anything else that had open calls. Gallagher Girls is a different book series and I really don’t want them to get ruined. I still would love a Movie though!! I’m sure its going to be PERFECT!!!
To anyone reading this and hopes to one day audition for the possible Gallagher Girls/Heist Society movie (or any movie) you need to SIGN WITH A TALENT AGENT. If you don’t know what that is, Google is a great resource. Having an agent is the first and most vital step to take if you have any hope to audition. Even if it’s an open casting call, having an agent makes you more professional and could offer you precious experience/knowledge prior to your dream audition. I’m a film actor (and a major fan of GG and Heist) if ya’ll need credibility to this info. 🙂
My apologies for replying so much later than this initial comment. I highly doubt you’ll ever see this but I happened to stumble on this page and began to read through the comments and I came across this one. I thought I’d add my 2 cents as I am also a film actor. For open calls, you don’t need to be signed with an agency. There was an open call for a bit dayplayer role in a CBS drama a few months ago in my area. I am not, nor have I ever been signed to a talent agency (I’m only 19 so there isn’t all that much gravity to it). I was not cast, and I didn’t even have an actual headshot – I used one of my senior photos that I cropped and added my name to in the bottom, stapled to my resume. I was asked by another actor if I was with the local talent agency. I told her no (though she was) and she told me my headshot made me look like I was (as in it looked like a headshot that might be used by the agency). I was flattered and pleased that I was worrying about using a senior photo as a headshot for nothing. Very glad I didn’t have much to worry about in that regard after all. I wasn’t contacted at all after my audition, and though I was disappointed (because it was CBS and when you live in a small town, really only relying on networking and doing indie films, a CBS audition is a pretty big deal), I was still glad to have had the experience. You can do all the research in the world on the science of auditioning, the entire business side of acting and why certain things happen the way they do, but at the end of the day, experience is the best thing you’ve got. Putting things into action can only help you once you step back and reflect on each audition. Another thing I’ll add about this particular story is that (and this applies to all open casting calls) there will likely be a wide range of talent at the audition. I was 19 when I auditioned for that bit role for CBS and I remember seeing people my age there, people who looked to be in their 60s, and every age in between. In those cases, you can’t even hope that you’ll be cast or even get a callback. Sometimes, you’re just not what they’re looking for, and that’s out of your control. The audition sides did not fit my age range (but oh my, how I worked it anyway). There’s quite a few factors that come into play from the director’s/producer’s/casting directors’ points of view and all you really need to focus on is your performance in the audition. You win some, you lose some. Like I said, experience is your friend. Back to the original root of this whole thing – most casting calls are sent privately to agencies with the specific character breakdowns, and the agencies submit their actors’ headshots/resumes if they fit the character breakdowns. It is beneficial to get an agent if you can for that reason primarily, but it’s different if you’re in a small town (which I’ll go over below).
I definitely didn’t mean for this to be such a long message but I hope anyone reading this takes away at least one thing.
One last thing: there are two big circumstances in which you don’t need an agent – if you’re just starting out and/or if you feel like you’d be able to find more work on your own than with an agent. I live in a small town (and I hope to one day make to move to LA [the smart and safe way], but right now, I absolutely cannot afford it). There is one agency in town, and with that agency, there is one agent. That’s a very small agency! After a couple years of debating whether or not to get an agent, I finally cracked a few months ago and went in for an agency consultation and to speak with her about myself being represented by her – only to find out she wasn’t at the address she says the agency is at, and the few other people in the same building (it was almost like a business apartment setup) hadn’t heard of her. So here I am, fuming at how unprofessional the whole situation is, and falling back into my debate of whether or not to get an agent. 3 months later and I still don’t have an agent. And in regards to contracts, I no longer have time for a 1 or 2 year agency contract. I now rely solely on local networking and local indie films (and even at that, I’m still inconsistently working). I don’t mind it all that much – it’s nice to get experience working with all different circumstances with indie filmmaking that big budget film actors don’t get. And if I’m ever lucky enough to work on a big budget project, I’ll be equally thankful and grateful for that as well. Where big budget films have a big cast and crew (and actual craft services), indie productions have a smaller cast and crew and in my first acting job last year, it was either the PA or set designer that went out of his way to make an entire spread of food outside the filming location (I would hope that was all covered by the production budget). Different budgets will have different experiences, and I think it’s really fun to work in all different types of settings in that regard.
So sorry this is such a long message and I also apologize for getting so off track, but I thought I’d share my experiences. I’m also really glad to have seen another film actor talking about Ally Carter’s books!

GG would be a perfect candidate book to be make into a movie more than divergent or city of bone ever be.
Man, this was posted so long ago, and I REALLY hope there is a movie for the GGS and HS!!! LIONSGATE AND TONIK PRODUCE THE MOVIES!!!! I’m sad this was posted so long ago… 🙁
My daughter has recently taken a liking to these books! When we googled, there were trailers. Did a movie ever come out? I believe one video said 2010 and one said coming in 2012. Thank you!
