What’s new with Ally

February 12, 2014 by Ally Carter 14 Comments

Hi everybody!

Sorry I didn’t post last week. I’m afraid I got pretty sick with one of the flu-like plagues that is going around. I don’t think I had “The Bad Flu” but I had something. And I’m just now able to sit upright without my sinus cavities wanting to explode, so I’m counting that as a win.

(It says a lot about me that sitting upright now constitutes “winning”.)

But I am. And it does.

What else is going on?

Well, a few things, actually.

WATTPAD
Are any of you members of wattpad? Well, I am! I just joined. I’m “TheAllyCarter”, and you can see my full profile here.

Hopefully, we will be posting some cool stuff there for wattpad users in the coming months, so if you’re on Wattpad, please follow me so that you can get all the news and updates (and freebies!).

Embassy Row
Obviously, the big thing in my world is that I’m working on Embassy Row. I have gotten the manuscript back–all scribbled on and edited, and now I’m in the last long haul, trying to make it as great as possible before anyone else sees it! (Especially all of you.)

Remodel
Another big aspect of my life at the moment is that I’m doing some remodeling to my house. Nothing huge. Just some stuff that HAD to be done (new window, new siding, replacing a porch that was falling down). All of this simply means that my house is kind of loud and chaotic at the moment.

I will post pictures once it’s all finished, so you guys can see!

Photography Class
And speaking of pictures…I’ve enrolled in a photography class!

This is something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time. I’m not artistic (can’t draw. can’t paint). But I’d love to be able to take awesome pictures, and a few years ago I invested in a good camera and lens. But that doesn’t do me much good if I don’t know how to use it. So I’m taking a class. Wish me luck!

Austenland
I also wanted to let everyone know that one of my favorite movies of 2013 is now available on DVD/BluRay/digital download.

Austenland is based on the novel of the same name by the uber adorable Shannon Hale.

It’s a wonderful movie with an equally wonderful story BEHIND the movie.

You see, it was written, directed and produced by three women–something that is very rare in Hollywood. And it is funny and warm and sweet and just the kind of movie we don’t get very often anymore. No explosions. No superheroes.

Now, I love explosions and superheroes as much as the next person, but don’t you miss movies that are funny and romantic? I know I do. And that is just one reason why Austenland made me so happy.

(I saw it in the theater, but I just watched it again on DVD and I think I might have liked it even more the second time!)

But don’t take my word for it; check it out for yourself!

And that’s it, gang!

I’ve got to get back to work.

-Ally

*reads about photography, zones in on that and forgets everything else* You’re taking photography classes? I’m so jealous!! I’m a photographer (dreaming of going pro / to college for it) and people keep telling me I don’t need classes, but I really want them! Tell us how that works out, k?

I read Austenland last year, after reading some of Shannon Hale’s other novels, and it is my absolute favorite book she has written. I have been dying to see the movie and now that I know it has the Ally Carter Seal of Approval, there is no question about it, I am going see this film. Also, I hope you feel better soon!

I started the first book last month and within a week I had finished all 6! I can’t wait to read Heist Society and that series too! Thank you SO much for writing such an amazing series, and for including characters like Cammie and Zach. 🙂 You wouldn’t believe how happy I was to find these books!

Aah I’ve now watched Austenland twice and I want to watch it again. I love how it doesn’t take itself seriously at all! And JJ Field is amazing 😀 And there’s a Kiwi, so bonus! 😀 All the best with the photography classes and I can’t wait to read Embassy Row!

I’ve never saw an author who keeps her fans up-to-date about his/her life and cares about them so much. We you Ally!! Oh and by the way later in the future will you tell us how
Cammie and the gang end up.. once they finish growing up. (wink wink)

    Hi, Ally!
Just curious, but is Austenland similar to the movie Lost in Austen?
