Advice for new writers

February 20, 2014 by Ally Carter

Hey everybody.

Ally here. I think I’d like to do a post with advice for writers (something I do from time to time–check the archives to read them.)

So if any of you are writing–or would like to write–please leave your questions in the comments section. Next week I will answer my favorites.

Oh, and it makes my job much easier if you don’t ask more than two questions at a time.

thanks!

ALLY

What different things have you done to come up with ideas?

    Hey Ally,

One of my biggest problems is that when I get inspired to write my brain explodes with so many ideas and no way of organizing them. Usually I try to use this as my drive to move forward in the writing process, but I seem to be stuck in the never ending circle of where to put all these details. How do you organize all of these so that you can actually create an understandable plot?

    Thanks!

When you start write, how do you decide what you want to write about, and once you have your topic how do you stick with that topic and have your story come out good???

Do you have any advice on developing one small idea into a more complex plot?

Hi! I’m thrilled your answering these questions!
I love to write, but sometimes I have a problem with having too much information. I know it’s usually the other way around though. Well sometimes when I’m writing, I can’t fit all my information that I want in without making it too long and wordy. Then, I sometimes think of new and even better twists that I should have used instead. How do you handle these complicated problems?
    Thanks so much! 🙂
