Magnificent Monday

January 13, 2014 by Shellie 33 Comments

Hi Everyone!

Not sure if everyone saw this last week….

Here’s what Publisher’s Weekly shared today:

Sara Goodman at St. Martin’s Press has bought a YA anthology called My True Love Gave to Me: Twelve Holiday Stories, edited by Stephanie Perkins, author of Anna and the French Kiss. The collection will feature 12 romantic tales of young love by celebrated YA authors, including Rainbow Rowell, David Levithan, Gayle Forman, Ally Carter, Holly Black, Kiersten White, Matt de la Peña, Laini Taylor, Jenny Han and Kelly Link. Publication is set for October 2014; Kate Schafer Testerman at KT Literary did the deal for North American rights.

And here’s a little extra from St. Martin’s Press:

If you love holiday stories, holiday movies, made-for-TV-holiday specials, holiday episodes of your favorite sitcoms and, especially, if you love holiday anthologies, you’re going to fall in love with MY TRUE LOVE GAVE TO ME: Twelve Holiday Stories by twelve bestselling young adult writers, edited by international bestselling author Stephanie Perkins. Whether you celebrate Christmas or Hanukkah, Winter Solstice or Kwanzaa, there’s something here for everyone. So curl up by the fireplace and get cozy. You have twelve reasons to stay indoors and fall in love.

So excited for October now!!!!

The news had Ally and I  chatting about some great YA books that are out right now. Which got me wondering what books are you reading that you love or that are on your must read list this spring?

xoxo,

Shellie

Reading: Divergent series by Veronica Roth. I’m almost finished with the second book, Insurgent now! To read: Tfios, The Maze runner, The Mortal Instruments, the rest of Series of Unfortunate events, rest of Gallagher Girls and Heist society, and I have to re-read Mockingjay… And then there are a few books I got for Christmas and a few Nancy Drew books and etc…

I’m reading the Heroes of Olympus series right now, and they’re amazing!! I need to read the rest of those books, the rest of the Heist Society, the rest of the Gallagher Girls books, the Divergent series, The Mortal Instruments, the Legend series by Marie Lu, and the Witch & Wizard series by James Patterson. There are so many other books I have to read. It’s just insane! There are just too many books and not enough time.

I absolutely love the Divergent trilogy by Veronica Roth but I haven’t read the last book yet. The Mortal Instruments series was a awesome and I’m so excited for the next book to come out. And I’m in love with Rick Riordan’s Heroes of Olympus! I have way more series but I don’t think I can list them all.

I love The Mortal Instruments, The Maze Runner, GG and Heist Society, Divergent trilogy, and The Heroes of Olympus series. I am going to read any John Green book I can find (I read and loved Looking for Alaska and the Fault in Our Stars). I am also going to finish the Game of Thrones series as well as the book Prodigy. My friends and I keep showing each other new books to read. I can’t wait to read the books on my list!

I just read the Infernal Devices (Clockwork Angel, etc.) series by Cassandra Clare, which is like a prequel series to the Mortal Instruments. I don’t want to read anything else yet because I’m still thinking about them! They are SOOO good!

Books I love : The Season – SarahMaclean ; All my GGs ; I’m currently collecting the PercyJackson books (both series). 2 books to go (and the last one, of course) and with my birthday coming up at the end of the month, I’ll probably (hopefully!) get them.
Books I plan to read : Anything I can get my hands on 😉 But especially: the Veronica Roth books I keep hearing about. The first one is actually on hold for me at the library now, so I’ll start reading those when I’m done with the series I’m on now. I also can’t get the book Mystic City out of my head! I’m dying for the sequel to be released.

I JUST finished (half an hour ago, seriously!) Graceling by Kristin Cashore, which I got at Barnes and Noble the other day. It was really good!
I have Divergent by Veronica Roth, waiting for me on my bookshelf. I’m so excited to read the books, and for the movie to follow!
Also, Matched, by Ally Condie is another book that is on my bookshelf right now.
I picked up This Lullaby by Sarah Dessen at my favorite used bookstore. I love Sarah Dessen, so I’m super excited about that, even if it isn’t exactly a new book.
I got Throne Of Glass by Sarah Maas and Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein (also at Barnes and Noble)
Hey, I couldn’t help myself! Once I get to a Barnes and Noble, I go nuts! Last time I was there was September, to pick up United We Spy!
I also have How Zoe Made Her Dreams (Mostly) Come True by Sarah Strohmeyer, Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell, and Under the Never Sky and Through the Ever Night by Veronica Rossi all waiting for me on my iPad.
These are just the ones I’m looking forward to reading most from my shelf. Trust me, there’s much more than this!
Besides, I’m going to a school book sale next week, so hopefully, I can pick up some more books there!
And, last but not least, today I ordered The Fault In Our Stars by John Green from Amazon. I can’t wait until it gets here!
Ps: I recently read the Ruby Red Trilogy by Kirsten Geir and Time Between Us by Tamara Ireland Stone. Highly recommended! And, of course, if you haven’t already read all of the Hunger Games books, what are you waiting for?!
PPS: Ally’s books are still the best!

Okay right now I am reading Perfect Scoundrels because I felt like it. I recently finished Princess Diaries, the movie is way better especially the movie doesn’t have too much inappropriate stuff. Sigh it is hard to find good clean YA books. Something that real people can relate to, not everybody in their life are popular or have a cute guy falling heads over heals for this chick who is ugly, really does that ever happen, well maybe to the one percent. Books like Airhead are more relatable ya sure brain transplants in to models is more than unrealistic but you can relate to the main character because the author gives you realistic high school scenes. Even though the Gallagher and heist society series are a little bit unrealistic you can still relate to it and they do not have absurd plots. Plus it is fun to read those series. Okay, okay sorry back from my rant. Anyways I will keep searching for better books. Love your books Ally!

Yes!!! danielle.I am not the only one… I have high standards for what I read and it doesn’t involve the usual inappropriateesqueness of most YA books. I am so glad you mentioned that you have a hard time because I do too! I love books like ally’s that keep it clean! Some other authors that I feel do a good job are Jennifer Holm and Ally Condie and Jannette Rallison. They are good books with realistic heroines! Also for me , call me a nerd, but I love classics. For example I am a big fan of the Betsy Tacy books(the high school ones)

I want to read Divergent because all of my friends say that its really good…

But some books I absolutely LOVE (besides any ally carter books 😉 ) are:
-The Healer’s Apprentice–loosely based sleeping beauty in both princess and prince’s points of view <3
-The Merchants Daughter–loosely based Beauty and the Beast in both points of view <3
-The Fairest Beauty– Snow white prince charming <3 <3 <3
-The Captive Maiden–Cinderella and her Prince! <3
All are by Melanie Dickerson and they are placed in medieval times like 1400's and its REALISTIC! you would think that any princess stuff like this would be really fake but no… <3 I absolutely love all of it 😀
My life is complete with medieval-ness romance and spies!
