My favorite (unexpected) scenes

September 12, 2012 by Ally Carter 47 Comments

Hi gang,

A lot of you have been asking about the scenes I mentioned in the post on my process–which scenes I didn’t set out to write but are now among my favorites.

(MINOR SPOILERS MAY FOLLOW)

In Heist Society, it was the scene  where Kat first goes to see Mr. Stein.  I didn’t even know there WAS a Mr. Stein until Kat knocked on his door.

In GG3 it is the very short scene at the very end of the book when Cam is sleeping on the couch in Rachel’s office hears and sees all the reactions to what has just happened.

In GG5 it is the scene where Cam goes to the roof.  (no.  I didn’t even know THAT was going to happen.  Although, I did know most of the big twists from the start.)

have fun,

Ally

Mine too it was by far the best. I like how ppl say books get worse when theres a series but ally her books just keep getting better. I can’t wait until gg6 I am going to be so sad. I expect some kind of betrayal or something. And I LOVE ZACH HE Is AMAZING! CAMMIE TOO.

Yes I totally agree! The fifth book is so much better! I started crying during the roof scene! I wish Zach was a real person because I would be the happiest girl in the world! Gallagher Academy should be real so I can go and be a spy:)

Yeah the scene on the room was so good. Except I was clutching clutching my book and crying and saying “No, no, no Cammie!” I was basically a wreck and then I got through it. Most intense scene ever!

Try brainstorming your ideas on paper. You can watch movies and read books of the same genre for ideas. Create a plot outline (you don’t have to, I usually don’t, but it’s a big help for when you get stuck). Make some credible villains and believable, likable protagonists. I know a few links to websites that might help you (they’ve helped me a lot), but it’s nearly impossible to go back to them to copy and paste without my reply disappearing. Here’s one, for starters:

Hi ally so I was getting in a disagreement with a follow fan about the color of Bex skin. She believed that it was very light brown, almost white because that is the color of a cappuccino (the coffee) I said that no she had darkness to her skin. So how dark is her skin color? Is is light light brown on dark brown?

Thank you so much! And the deleted scenes kind of made my day!

I love, love, LOVE when Mr. Solomon wakes up. Any moment with Mr. Solomon in general is my favorite. I’ll admit, at first I was suspicious of him in the first book, but when he and Rachel were having fun at that dance, I converted to a Mr. Solomon lover. The one thing I’d like to see in the future would be more Mr. Solomon and Cammie moments. I think they would have a great ‘father-daughter’ type dynamic going on.
