It's T-Shirt Contest Time!

September 29, 2010 by Ally Carter 45 Comments

Oh yeah!  You read that right! It’s time for our third annual T-Shirt design
competition!

If
you’d like to try your hand, please read these rules in their entirety.

Because
of the number of entries we’re expecting and what’s at stake, entries
that do not comply with the contest rules will not be considered.

If
you have questions regarding the contest rules, please consult a parent,
guardian, or teacher.

THE
RULES

Please
send your entry, your name, your date of birth, and your email address to AllyCarterContest (at
sign) gmail.com
on or before Sunday, October 24,
2010.

Entrants
must be under 21 years of age on the date that contest entries are due.

All
designs must be original artwork (no clipart, photographs to which you do not
own the copyright, etc.).

Designs
may use lines or themes from the book, but should not directly copy any cover
art elements.

Collaborative
efforts are allowed, but prizes must be shared among the members of the winning
team.

A
parent or guardian may assist, but you must do the majority of the work
yourself.

Designs
will be judged based on concept, execution, and the ability for the designs to
duplicate well.

Designs
must be sent as either pdf or jpeg files. (Entries may be created in any
software program or with pen/paper, but files MUST be scanned or saved in
either pdf or jpeg format before they are sent to us because we don’t make the files–we just deliver them to the t-shirt people as is.  In other words, your design must be ready AS-IS.)

You
will be submitting designs only–no need to make actual t-shirts. Those will
come later.

You
may submit a maximum of TWO entries.

Designs
can be for front, or back, or front and
back. Note that preference may be given to designs that are one-sided since
they will be less expensive to produce and purchase.

An
important note:

The
winning design may be used in a number of ways to help promote the Gallagher
Girls series and/or Heist Society. By entering this contest you give up the
copyright to your artwork (meaning you can’t sue us if we use it
because…well…using it is kind of the purpose.)

If
you’ve read and understood these rules and feel up to a challenge, then start
designing!

The
winner will receive a $200 gift card to the bookstore of his or her choice and
a t-shirt featuring the winning design!

The
winning design will be featured on t-shirts (and possibly other merchandise)
that will be sold on cafepress.com. (Please note that these items
will be sold “at cost” meaning I won’t be making any money off of
this, just so you know.)

And
that’s it, gang!  I hope you all have a great fall season!

-Ally

ps: finally, I know a lot of people will have questions, so I’d like to remind you that this is the third time we’ve had this competition, so my advice?  Go to the search box on the top of the site and type in “T-Shirt Contest” and you’ll get a couple of dozen posts about past contests.  Also, spend some time on cafepress.com looking at the winning designs from past years as well as some of the designs in general that are available.

Remember, the winner will be the person who has the best TOTAL DESIGN–that’s concept, execution, everything.  And while both of the previous winners have had clever sayings, it’s not a clever saying contest.  It’s a DESIGN contest.  So get to designing, everyone!

PPS: an additional thing to note: there are no bonus points for getting your designs in super early, so I would advise starting your design as soon as possible, and then let it sit for a while, come back, revise, sit, revisit, revise, etc until it’s as good as it can possibly be.

Also, the designs can be for Heist Society AND/OR Gallagher Girls.  Totally your call.

    Hi Ally,
Can I use the empty painting on my shirt like on the cover in the sunglasses but create it in my own way? And can I use your name on it so people know who wrote it?

    Okaye so, quick question(:

You said that we could make two designs. Well, if I make a design for the front of the shirt and then a design for the back of the shirt does that count as two ? Or just one since it is going on the same shirt ?

Please explain so I don’t submit over two designs, ahah(:

I have a quick question: If we are using a cover element but we’re not directly copying it (Like the words ‘Heist Society’ in red and white fancy script) then will you change it when you receive the t-shirt or will you just leave it?

Would you prefer that we write “Ally Carter” or “www.allycarter.com” on our designs if we’re planning to label them?

ahhhhhhh! I have no idea what to draw!!! Are we allowed to use that skull and cross bones logo, or is that considered “directly copying” the cover?

I actually do have a newsletter that people can subscribe to and receive these kinds of updates. Please sign up under the CONTACT portion of this website.

Also, new events (like the t-shirt contest) are always listed on the very front page of this site.

I know that you’re incredibly busy, and that you probably don’t want to give a date so that you aren’t pressured to stick to it, but is it possible you could give us an estimate of when the result will be posted? I’m just so excited, and I don’t know if I should be checking the site and twitter three times a day or once a week. Could you just say if it will be in about a week or a month? If not, thank you anyways! Love your books!
