Authors as mountaineers

September 7, 2010 by Ally Carter Leave a Comment

I’ve heard it said that publishing a book is like climbing a mountain, and that, my friends, is really quite true.

I remember very well the feeling of standing on solid, flat ground (or a blank piece of paper) and looking up at the steep incline, the rocky cliffs, the trees, the snow, the terror.  But the only way to climb that mountain is to climb.  So you write, you research, you do the work it takes to get you to the top. There are no new conversations.

this business is a marathon, not a sprint.  The sooner you make your peace with that (in my opinion) the sooner you have a shot at a career.
