WHAT IS THIS BOOK CLUB I’VE BEEN READING ABOUT?
One of the best things about being an author is getting to meet other authors, so when my friend Alan Gratz‘s book, SOMETHING ROTTEN, was released for free online last month (unfortunately, it’s no longer available online but it is in stores!) it prompted me to ask Alan if he would like to spend an hour here, discussing this cool series with readers.
And he said yes.
SO WHAT BOOK SHOULD I READ?
Officially, we’ll be discussing SOMETHING ROTTEN.
However, I have a hunch that Alan would gladly take questions about the sequel, SOMETHING WICKED, as well as his other books.
WHEN AND WHERE WILL THE CHAT TAKE PLACE?
Right now, the plan is to hold the chat here, at allycarter.com at 8:00 p.m. Eastern/ 7:00 p.m. Central time on December 30, 2008!
More details will follow.
WOULD IT BE OKAY FOR TEACHERS AND LIBRARIANS TO JOIN THE CHAT TOO?
As far as I’m concerned, everyone interested in talking about books is always welcome at Ally Chat (do you like the name or is it too cheesy? It’s too cheesy isn’t it?) and teachers and librarians are pretty much the epitome of people interested in talking about books!
Given that SOMETHING ROTTEN is a modern re-telling of Shakespeare’s HAMLET, I think this chat would be especially interesting to professional educators. In fact, I’m going to try to get my mother (who taught HAMLET to seniors at my high school for a good portion of her career) to sit in as well.
WILL THERE BE A LIMIT TO THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE WHO CAN BE IN THE CHAT?
Uh…I don’t know. We’re still figuring out the technological aspect of all this. I hope not. But I can’t say anything for sure.
WILL THE CHAT BE RECORDED FOR PEOPLE TO WATCH LATER?
Again, I’m afraid that’s going to depend upon the technology, so I can’t say for sure just yet.
WILL WE JUST BE TALKING ABOUT ALAN‘S BOOKS OR WILL YOU BE TALKING TOO?
Oh, I’ll be there for sure. And I’m sure I’ll probably mention my books at some point (the Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy paperback will be out by then, so some of you will have read the first chapter of GG3 and, for those of you who buy the special Barnes and Noble edition, the bonus materials), but we’re going to spend a lot of time visiting with our guest.
It’s not that often that we have company, after all.
Basically, I just want this to be a fun, casual discussion of good books with good readers.
DO YOU KNOW IF/WHEN YOU’LL PICK ANOTHER BOOK?
I’d like to, but again, it’s going to depend on how this one goes. If it goes well, I already have another book and author in mind…
Thanks again, everyone!
And happy holidays!
Ally
