Kat/Heist bookIt's tour time!Hey everybody, I'm sitting in my kitchen watching it snow (hard!) and getting ready to go start packing for tour. I'm leaving this afternoon and hoping the snow doesn't mess stuff up too much. Assuming I can get to Chicago (and I bet I can) I hope many of you will come out tomorrow to help me welcome Heist Society into the world! Yay! Heist Society is here! It's finally here! Tuesday, February 16 Wednesday, February 17 Thursday, February 18 Friday, February 19 Heist Society movie news!Hey everybody! Wow. Where do I begin? So you guys know that I'm at the American Bookseller's Association's Winter Institute? I've got a book coming out... A tour starting... More books to write... There's a lot going on. Well, I just THOUGHT I was busy because yesterday things went sort of...crazy. You see, about a week ago my wonderful film agent, Sarah Self, sent Heist Society to a handful of trusted producers in Hollyood. In the past week we've been getting some really interesting calls. And then yesterday--yes, while I was doing my signing here in San Jose--things escalated. We had several amazing people all offering amazing things all at once. So...yeah...CRAZY! The whole time I was writing Heist I always thought of it as a movie. More than once I've said that it's far more cinematic than anything I've ever done. But what do I know, right? I also think cake is a well-balanced breakfast, so I'm wrong. A lot. But it turns out some really incredibly talented filmmakers seem to agree. At the end of the day we ended up signing with Warner Brothers and the talented Denise DiNovi as the producer. The screenplay will be written by the fabulous Shauna Cross (who wrote Whip It and the screenplay for If I Stay). Please check out this article for more details: http://tinyurl.com/yces864 . And now, I'm afraid, I've got to go, but I do want to remind everyone that this is absolutely NO guarantee that there will be a movie made. And, once again, I will have no say in who is cast in the movie or anything like that. But it IS a first step and a wonderful one at that. New Details! Wednesday, February 17 Thursday, February 18 Friday, February 19 ps...just reminding everyone one more time that I have no say in where and when I go on tour. Hopefully I'll get to do it again in the future. If you'd like to voice your preference for me to visit a store near you, you can do so right here. One more tour stop!Yes, it's official. San Jose, I'm coming your way! My wonderful publicist has confirmed that I will be having a "meet and greet" at the Borders Cafe in San Jose, California on the afternoon of Thursday, February 4th! Yay! Unfortunately, this will be my only west coast stop on this tour. (But there will hopefully be other tours and I will certainly make it out west on one of those. Plus, don't forget I was just there last June.) As for the rest of the tour, we're still working to firm up one additional date, but hopefully I'll be able to report back on that in the very near future. In the meantime, check out the most up-to-date tour schedule below. Also, if you're thinking about attending one of the events, I'd recommend you visit the store's website to read all about their signing policies. Some stores may require you to reserve your seat in advance, so check it out. Go here and get the code! Thanks again, everyone! And congratulations, Amanda! -Ally Heist Society FAQ, Part 2!HOW DID YOU COME UP WITH THE TITLE? It was a title that just popped into my head pretty early on, but we (my editor, agent, writer friends) all kept thinking that maybe there was something better. Months and months we searched. We probably came up with dozens of titles--all of which felt wrong. It took a while to realize that was because Heist Society was right. Now I can't imagine calling the book anything else. WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE CHARACTER IN HEIST SOCIETY? That's a hard one. I love them all in different ways. Kat is very independent and savvy about some things--not so much others. Her cousin, Gabrielle, is the only other main female character and she's very upfront and honest in a wonderfully blunt and refreshing kind of way. And then there are the boys... Sigh. So many boys. WHO IS MORE LIKE YOU, KAT OR CAMMIE? Well, I'm neither spy nor thief, but I'm sure part of me is in both of them. Kat grew up in a male-dominated world and she's used to being the only girl in the room. That is something from my life/world that I absolutely brought to Kat's character. WILL HEIST SOCIETY BE PAPERBACK OR HARDBACK? It will be hardback at first (February 9, 2010) and it will be out in paperback about a year after (I think). WHAT'S IT LIKE WRITING TWO SERIES AT THE SAME TIME? It can be kinda crazy--especially when you have to switch back and forth between the two. But it's also very fun. I get to spend time with two smart, confident, and highly-skilled characters and in their colorful worlds. I know how lucky that makes me. DO YOU LIKE THE COVER? Yeessss! WERE (ARE) YOU SCARED TO TRY SOMETHING NEW? At the time I was writing I wasn't scared because the book and world were new, but because the story itself was just a hard one. Heist stories twist and curve and are always something of a house of cards. Thankfully, I had the wonderful Editor Jen to help guide me along the way, and in the end, I think we made my best book yet. Now that the book is about to come out, though, I'm TERRIFIED! What if people hate it? What if they don't get it? What if it sells 3 copies? What if my fictional boyfriend (George Clooney) doesn't like how Kat's dad sort of...resembles...him and he breaks up with me?!?!? See...there's plenty of cause for concern. WHEN WILL YOU START WORKING ON HEIST SOCIETY 2? Soon. Hopefully soon. WHAT IS THE PAINTING FEATURED ON THE COVER? I actually don't know. All I am certain of is that we weren't allowed to use a famous/notable painting because of copyright concerns. Nighty night! |
