Ally's Diary
GG4 Q&A Time!Hey everybody! Thank you to everyone who tuned into this post to add questions and comments about the events that transpired in ONLY THE GOOD SPY YOUNG! It was very fun and interesting to read through what everyone had to say about the book and, specifically, the things that you'd like to know about upcoming books! We had over 250 posts last night when I sat down and started replying to them. I weeded out duplicate questions (of which we had a lot) and did my best to answer all the questions that I could without ruining future books. Because the comments were so many and so thorough I've now turned the comments setting OFF for this post. I'm afraid GG4-spoiling comments are still off-limits for the rest of the site, but luckily there are several GG-centric fansites now available online. I'm sure there are probably GG4 spoiler posts at many of them. In the meantime, please read through the comments here if you'd like to know more about Gallagher Girls 4, but be warned the comments section of this post WILL contain spoilers for Only the Good Spy Young. Read at your own risk.
Enjoy! Ally

How do you think your going to start GG5?? Is Cammie going to start somewhere in the summer looking for answers, or right into the school year??
To answer this question would totally ruin book 5, I'm afraid, so I guess I have to say no comment.

Cammie's going into hiding. Is Zach going with her like he suggested?
First, Cammie isn't going into hiding. She's going looking for answers to what happened to her dad and why the Circle is after her.
And no, Zach is NOT going with her. She says quite plainly in the final chapter that she's leaving the mansion alone and that this is a mission she has to go on ALONE. She's not taking Zach, her mom, her friends or anyone because she knows that anyone around her is at risk. Even Zach because even though his mom wouldn't hurt him (or would her close allies--like the man who could have shot Zach at the end of GG3) he still could get caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Plus, let's not forget, Zach was willing to die in the tombs to save Cammie. He most certainly COULD get hurt, so no, she's not going with him.
So, officially, just to clear up any possible confusion:
CAMMIE IS LEAVING ALONE.
CAMMIE IS NOT LEAVING WITH ZACH.
"By myself" means "by myself". It never ever meant anything else and the confusion that many readers have had can only stem from people reading what they WANT Cammie to say instead of what she actually DID say.
She said she's going alone. She said it right there on the page. And she meant it.
Will Josh be in gg5? I loved gg4 it was amazing!
I have no comment about who will (or won't) be in future books as that might spoil future books.
Sorry.
Ally
Hi the book was amazing I just wanted to know why Rachel allowed the blackthorne academy to come to gallagher in cross my heart and hope to spy was she aware at that time that the circle recruited from blackthorne and about zach's mum
The Circle recruits everywhere--Gallagher too. What makes them so dangerous is that they have spies (literally!) everywhere.
Rachel allowed the Blacthorne Boys to spend the semester at the Gallagher Academy because, as Zach tells Cammie, Mr. Solomon was starting to change things. He wanted the boys to see the Gallagher Academy in the hopes that they could learn at the best school in the world and take some of that environment back to Blackthorne with them.

Hey Ally I loved the book its definitely my favourite
my question is when did solomon and zach become close was it during cross my heart and hope to spy or did they know each other beforehand? Are they close because solomon understands zach and is trying to protect him?
I think Zach and Mr. Solomon have known each other for a while, certainly before Cross My Heart. Joe cares for Zach because he knows what he's been through (who is mom is) and he wants to be a mentor to him and a positive role model.

Hey Ally, I loved Only the Good Spy Young! I have a question I've wanted answered for a LONG time: In all your other books Cammie's Dad is named Christopher Morgan.. Right? Why is he Matthew Morgan in GG4?? Maybe I'm insane and making things up, But I'm pretty sure you did change his name?
Actually, Cammie's dad has never been named in any of the other books. Never. Not Christopher. Not Chris. Not anything. He was never named. (And, for the record, if he had been named his name would have been Matthew...because that's his name.)
So you can imagine my surprise at having multiple people tell me that I got Cam's dad's name wrong.
I didn't.
Evidently, people in fanfiction communities took it upon themselves to name Cam's dad and name him Christopher. They had no right to do this and they were wrong.
People ask me all the time how I feel about fanfiction. Honestly, on one hand, it's so incredibly flattering that people want to spend more time with my characters and my world.
But here's the thing I hope people remember: I'm the author which means that they are my characters and it is my world.
Fans don't get to create canon. They don't get to determine the plot, the characters, or even the names.
I'm not drunk on power; I'm just the author and as the author that's the way it HAS to be. We aren't writing these things by committee, folks. That's not the way it works for VERY good reasons.
So, no, Cam's dad isn't named Christopher.
And no, no one had the right to say otherwise.

Did Zach ever go to Blackthorne since in GG2 he went to the Gallagher Academy but how long has he known that his mom was part of the circle?
To answer this fully would ruin some parts of future books, but I can say that Zach DID attend Blackthorne. He has known about his mom for quite a while. Several years at least.

The "Face I've kissed" in Cammie's dream wasn't Zach's, was it?
Cammie was dreaming she was Gilly, but her life and Gilly's life were kind of getting muddled together in her mind. So, yes, in the haze of Cammie's dream (and the combination of the dream and Zach being in her room--something she'd probably picked up on subconsciously) "the face she'd kissed" was Zach.
-Ally
When you finish Cammie's story, are u planning on making more series about the Gallagher Academy and the girls in it?
Thanks!! :D
-Megan
I have no plans to do that at this time, but these things are never written in stone.
Thanks!
Ally
Okay. . . so i know you answered a lot of questions in gg4 but u also brought up a lot more. Will there be a new problem?? i completely love your books but the 1st 2 books had there own problems but in the recent 2 it is the same problem, somewhat. So will this problem follow through out the rest of the series or will it end and a new problem arise? Also did Zach go with Cammie because i think she will only contact him because he can keep a secret. But i don't think she could just pack up and leave him behind freaking out like that. I think Zach, Bex, Liz,and Macy will be in the loop but no one else because they will be frantically searching for her if they don't know she is ok by herself.
Thanks!! :-) - Micaela
Telling someone that you are running away (even if it is to protect everyone you love)is a very big secret to keep. I do not believe cammie told or will tell anyone about that. That's why cammie turned zach down about running away WITH him, but she decided to go by herself
Well actually Cammie did technically tell someone. At the end of the book it says she put her cove-op/diary/report thinga-majig back in the hall of history for someone to find.So...Well, actually we dont know who she "told."
It could be anyone:Tina Walters,Mick Morris, Anna Fett., Macey, Bex, Liz,Rachel morgan ,Mr. Solomon ,or maybe even...
Zach Goode.
EXACTLY!!!!! I THINK ZACH WILL FIND IT AND PUT THE PIECES TOGETHER ( HE IS A SPY, ITS WHAT THEY DO) AND FIND HER UNLESS SHE KEEPS HIM INFORMED. . .
Well, anyone in the school could find the report, so what if a random member of the student body finds it first?
BUT he will eventually find her if she does not tell him, and if she doesn't want to be found she would have to keep him updated. Also, remember they are spies they can keep MANY secrets. Also it isn't set in stone so anything could happen. . . that's just MY opinion.
And even if they find out she ran away, Zach, her mom, and her friends still have to FIND her. And Cammie's the Chameleon, so she wouldn't be that easy to find.
If Cammie weren't a spy in training, what do you think she would grow up to be/would want to grow up to be if the whole spy thing weren't pretty much decided for her?
(I've been wondering the same thing about Kat actually, if she had gotten out of the Family Business successfully and Hale had never "rescued" her from Colgan, what would she have ended up growing up to be? But I will keep this GG related...sort of ;) )
I don't know what Kat and Cammie would have become if they hadn't gotten sucked into their respective family businesses. I guess they could have been ANYTHING (and that's sort of the point.)
-Ally
Maybe a cop or a detective or something where she can use her deducive mind.
Or perhaps a farmer.
You never know.
i was curious as to how cammie is and or would plan to run away? Would she take some money she has stashed away, or earn money as she goes? is she traveling light with maybe a backpack, or maybe nothing but the clothes on her back?
she is a spy she can fend for herself.
Is Cammie going back to school in the next book?
Is Zack leaving Blackthorne?
he already left..
Didn't Headmistress Morgan say that it wasn't safe for Zach to be anywhere else? Something like that...they'd find him at Blackthorne if he went back, wouldn't they?
Will GG5 be written in a present tense?? :P
No.
Each book is Cammie's end of the semester report. Usually she works on these during the break between semesters. (She she would have written GG3 while she was in England, for example. She wrote GG2 while she was in Nebraska on her grandparents' ranch during the break before she got the call from Macey.)
The reason the last chapter of GG4 switched to present tense is because she was writing the report RIGHT THEN. She knew she'd be on the run. She knew she had to finish the report before she left. So she wrote right up until the moment when she left (thus the tense switch).
-Ally
So how did Zack and the others survive from being blown up by the bomb?
The room was rigged to explode in such a way that it would destroy the documents on the shelves and any of the artifacts stored inside the space. So it wasn't rigged to implode or anything as big as it probably seemed. I think Zach and Mr. Solomon and Zach's mom were probably able to duck under tables or take shelter against the initial blast and then they were able to flee into the tunnels.
--Ally
Did the people at blackthorne notice the explosion.....?
Yes. As Townsend tells Cam, people are digging out the wreckage. It wasn't the sort of thing that could be hidden.
--Ally
First off, I've been waiting to say this for awhile: I nearly had a heart attack when I thought Zack was dead! I kept waiting for him to pop up, and I was so relieved when he did! I do have one question though. In the first 3 books, I'm pretty sure there was a girl named Mick Morrison in Cammie's classes, but in Only the Good Spy Young, it was Mack Morrison. Why did you change her name?
That was a mistake. I admit it. Mentally her name got switched inside my silly head and I never doublechecked it (because I never re-read the books once they're finished) and no editors or copyeditors caught it either.
-Ally
Ally,
It was soo fantastic meeting you last night and I'll have you know I read the entire book last night just so liz and cecilia would stop messing with me! I could not believe that the woman from Boston was Zach's mom! it was such a great twist! Thank you soo much for writing these books and I fully plan to read the disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks!
Why was Abby so out of it for most of the book? Because even under the same circumstances, Rachel wasn't so sad and they both really cared about Joe Solomon.
Good catch! You're right, Abby WAS different. It was partly because of Joe but more than anything it was a byproduct of being shot and almost dying. That affected Abby more than anyone really realized. It changed her in many ways.
-Ally
At the end, Cammie leaves everything behind. My question is if Zach follows/finds her OR the girls find her. As I recall she swallowed a GPS tracking device. I just figured the girls/Zach would know she might run and do something to track her. Thanks for answering the questions.
I'm sure people probably ARE looking for Cam. And I'm equally sure the tracking device she swallowed probably passed through her system many weeks or months prior. She's going to make sure she's as hard to find as possible because this is something she is SURE she has to do on her own.
-Ally
Ooooh! Ally that sounds so mysterious.
Why did you choose to make mr. Solomon "kill" Cammies father? THEY BOOK WAS AWESOME BY THE WAY!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm gonna sound really weird saying this, but I don't actually choose what will happen in the books. For me, writing isn't about making stuff up. It's actually about finding the truth and figuring out what actually did happen.
So I didn't choose to make Mr. Solomon carry the guilt and blame for Cam's dad's death. That's just what happened so that's what I wrote down.
-Ally
Is Mr. Solomon Zachs dad?
