Some Qs and some As

Hi everybody!

And a happy Fourth of July to all of the US readers out there. May you have a very safe and happy (and wildfire free) holiday. Oh, and if you and your family do fireworks, please be extremely cautious and maybe reconsider this year if you are in one of the drought-stricken parts of the country. So much potential tragedy if just one spark goes astray.

Now, on to some Qs and As that I have been seeing lately.

Q: when will PERFECT SCOUNDRELS be released?
A: february 5 in the US and Canada. I’m honestly not sure in other countries. I typically don’t get that information, I’m afraid.

Q: have you started writing GG6?
A: not quite yet. I still have to wrap up Heist 3, but I imagine I will start within the next few weeks.

Q: when will GG6 be released?
A: I honestly don’t know yet, but if and when I do know I will share. I promise.

Q: why is the synopsis on this site different from the synopsis I read on Goodreads?
A: this is the official synopsis. It is what will be in all the official marketing materials and (I think) on the back of the book. I don’t know where people get the information that they put on Goodreads, but I can say that I have never seen that synopsis before and I don’t know where it came from.

Q: are Kat and Hale really boyfriend and girlfriend now? When did that happen?
A: pretty much over the course of Heist 2. I know they didn’t come out and say “will you be my girlfriend, yes/no”, but it happened. Life isn’t always that black and white (no matter what Facebook would have you to believe.)

Q: why don’t you make a movie about the Gallagher Girls?
A: for the same reason I’ve been giving for six years now: I don’t have the money, expertise, connections, time or resources to make movies. All I can do is option the rights to people who do have those things, and that is an incredibly complicated issue.

Q: what have you read lately?
A: I’m currently reading CODE NAME VERITY. It is a World War II spy book about two teen girls and it is fab.

Q: what are you doing for the Fourth?
A: working.

Q: why don’t you write faster?
A: see question and answer above.

Q: why don’t you write more GG books and/or do a spinoff?
A: right now, my primary focus is on finishing out the series as strongly as possible. If and when I have a story that merits returning to the world, I will, but I’m not going to force something just to keep “milking” the Gallagher Girls. In short, I must do what is best for the books, foremost and always.

Q: will you do an epilogue do GG6–we should get to see Zach and Cammie’s kids!?
A: will there be an epilogue? Only if the story/situation calls for one. But I think there is now a vast misunderstanding of what epilogues actually are.

Hunger Games had an epilogue with Katniss and her children. Harry Potter had an epilogue with his children. And therefore many readers have been conditioned to think that “end of series”=hero or heroine with babies.

Well, that doesn’t have to be true. It was true for THOSE series, but by no means do I think it has to be true for all.

I know what the last scene of GG6 will be. I’ve known almost since writing GG1. And I’m not going to change that because people have been trained to expect something incredibly specific.

Happy holiday everyone,
Ally

Awesome! Thanks for taking the time to answer questions! :)

    Happy Fourth!

    • Is the last scene gonna be that she finds out her dad is really alive because that could happen her dad’s grave could have been a trick. And when they were talking about keeping his remains in langley they could have been someone else’s so her dad can still be alive.

  2. Tayler Clements says:

Thank you thank you thank you!! It is wonderful seeing you answer (some) questions, some of which I had actually wondered about. I appreciate all that you do as an author and how you try to stay involved with your fans!

  3. Don't Forget About Me says:

Thanks for answering some of our questions, Ally.

Happy Fourth of July. Sorry you’ll have to spend it working D: But it’s supposed to rain here, so I’ll probably be working on all of my much needed updates. :( And book reports and whatnot. So we’ll both be spending it the 4th inside and slaving at the computer and desk, so you’re not alone :P

Bye for now, Ally :) Have a fun day tomorrow, despite the working. I kind of hope it rains there, though (’cause there’s a drought in Oklahoma, right, so you guys need some rain! D:) but if it doesn’t, try to get some time in the pool :)

    - Sol :)

  4. You know, I think I’m one of those people who just doesn’t really like epilogues. I understand why writers include them, but I’m one of those people who loves an open ending where I get to imagine a number of possibilities!

    • I know! When people make epilogues it feels to finished. Like that is what happened and there is no way to change it, or imagine anything different.

      • I agree completely!!! Well almost. It’s sometimes nice to see that whatever happened in the book didn’t affect them later on. Ex. Hunger Games Katniss. I hope that Cammie does marry Zach though!!!

      • Lizzy! Hi :) and I agree with that, it’s just a ton better when you can imagine another outcome in your head, instead of being told and restricted to that

        • I could say I don’t like epilogues, but that’s a huge understatement. Honestly, I don’t like ENDINGS. Period. Because they mean, well the end. Still, since you have to end it, you might as well do it right. I think in some cases epilogues are the best way to end the series. (Harry Potter flashback.) Right now, Ally’s the only one who knows what would be the best way to end :( this amazing series. And I for one totally trust her to make that decision.

          • JustAnotherWriter says:

I totally agree with you on the ending thing. I’m the kind of person who gets that empty feeling when I finish a really good book or the last book in a series that I know doesn’t have more. I’ve read all the books in the Gallagher Girls series and I love them all. I can’t wait to read the next book and start reading the Heist series.

  5. Thanks, Ally! I think it’s so cool that you’ve known from the get go how GG6 is going to end. I can’t wait for it (or Perfect Scoundrels). Have a good 4th!

  6. It is kinda freaky how many of those questions were in my own head. Maybe all Gallagher Girls think alike?
    :) Bye

  7. I can’t wait!! I love both book series!

  8. Bianca G says:

When you wrote GG1, did you know that you were gonna encorprate it in GG5? Or did u just have luck that it worked with the plot of the book?

  9. Really, people have been asking why you don’t write faster? Jeez, that’s rude of them. Well, maybe not. They probably just don’t realize how much time and effort it takes to write a book. I know lots of people who think that authors spend their time in picturesque little gardens or cafes, writing with leather notebooks and quills- which is totally not true. Well, at least not for any authors I know of.

And I’m glad you’re not changing the way GG6 ends because of what’s popular. GG has always been a really fun, unique series and I can’t wait to see how you finish it.

    Have a fun Forth!

    • Madeline says:

I agree with Jill, people should know that Authors have a life too.
They don’t just sit at a computer and type all day long!! or in a garden.
      love the Q and A’s
      GG6 will be so cool

    • a secret spy at heart says:

      true true

    • It is rude that people have been asking why Ally doesn’t write faster. In my oppionion, the best authors take all the time they need to write the perfect book. That is why Ally is known worldwide and why her books are such a big success. She always takes her time to make every detail sount.

      • One of my teachers once told me I needed to write faster. (I was writing an essay for Creative Writing Class) I told her that to me, writing faster meant writing worse.

  10. caitlin says:

thanks ally so much for answering these questions! i always love it when you do q and a’s! good luck with the rest of your writing!!!:)

  11. I loved hearing all about GG6! can’t wait! But in the mean time, I’m going to love reading Perfect Scoundrels. Thanks ally! Have a great Fourth! I hope to meet you soon in California!

  12. I have to admit, I was one of the people who was sort of hoping that Zach and Cammie would get married. I didn’t care if they had children or not. I loved the Q and A!

  13. Thanks ally for clearing most things up and in glad that you’re going to keep to your idea of the last scene in GG6 coz what makes these books amazing is the way you write it and the way you think about it and it is important to get other peoples opinions but what you think is good, is more important don’t underestimate yourself :) happy holidays to the US girls that are reading this and to everyone else the summer holidays can’t come fast enough xx

  14. I can’t explain my excitement in words for GG6!!! That series most DEFINITELY is my favorite! Keep up the good work Ally! :)

  15. Thanks for answering our questions!
I am so excited for perfect scoundrels and gg6!!!!!
Thankyou so much ally for writing the gg books and heist society books!

  16. Life isn’t always that black and white no matter what Facebook tells you—SO true! So thanks for writing true relationships :)
Now I really want to read code name verity. Few things I love as much as historical fiction or spies, so both?! YES!
Epilogues are not always necessary. Agreed. And it for some reason completely thrills me that you’ve always known how it would end. It’s comforting and suspense building, in a way :)

  17. Dear Ally, you are my favorite author. And i really love the GG books and cant waite for the next one. Just One Question is their a way we can send you fan mail. I’m still kinda knew to the sight. But would really like to send you a letter un person. How could I (we) do that? One mire question i read the short stoty while cammie was gone and i was wondering is there more to that? And have you thought about wriying more short storys?

  18. Melissa says:

Okay I just want to know that when you start writing GG6 will you give us a sneek peek?

P.S. thanks for answering the questions. I was one of them wondering why a movie hadent been made.
    P.P.S. Happy 4th! :D

  19. Is it harder to write gg6 knowing it will be the last? Are you sad?

  20. Thanks for answering all those questions- I’m glad I know for sure now that Kat and Hale are a couple. I had pretty much figured it out, but they were so vague about it, I wasn’t sure exactly what their stance was.

Haha. “Why don’t you write faster” If I was an author, anyone who said this to me would wish he or she hadn’t:)

Epilogues are SO not always necessary. Sometimes they work, but often the ending is just so perfect on it’s own and the short follow-up just ruins the lasting impression. Unsatisfactory endings kinda make me want to throw the book at the wall, but at the same time and ending left open to your imagination can be much more powerful and memorable for me. I really have a love-hate relationship with the whole thing.

  21. Hi!
i was wondering on the cover, is the boy in the reflection of the glasses supposed to be Hale?
    Thanks!

    • LaLa Daisy says:

I was wondering the same thing! He looks a little older than what I would think Hale to be… So maybe its Kats dad…

      • GallagherGirl_Blackthorne Boy says:

The dude on the cover is Hale. I thought he looked a tad older than I expected but yes, that’s hale.

It says in Ally’s blog or interview. ;) .
        GallagherGirl_Blackthorne Boy

    • Yeah I was wondering about the boy in the reflection too!!! I can’t wait for either books!!!!

      • ally cat says:

Its Hale, that was a another question that she anwsered but didn’t post here!!!! :-) did u know he is her boyfriend now!?!? FINALLY!! I am rereading the first two, ill probably finish the 2nd sometime after midnight… even the second time they are addicting! Happy fourth ally, sorry u have to work the whole time. Luckily it will pay off!!!

    • I think it is Hale even though I think he does look a bit old, but I’m pretty sure that Ally said it was him on a twitter Q&A.

  22. Yah. You know, I don’t really want a movie, because it messes up the book and people who didn’t read the book will judge it by the movie and not the book, like The Hunger Games, for instance. I wouldn’t like to see Cammie and Zach’s kids, but I would like to see Josh in the last book. Just a little of my thought. ;)

    ~Renee

    • Oh, Josh…haha, we haven’t seen him for a while! He was a great open though…I still smile everytime I think about “Tell Suzie she’s a lucky cat” (:

      • I still wonder how Zach new bout that I know he is spy and all but still maybe in GG6 ally will let Cammie ask Zach how he knew! Lol just wondering

        • I REALLY want josh to be in GG6, but only if it is fitting for him to be. I don’t want him to just be squeezed in. IF he’s in GG6, it should be one of the best scenes of the book, in my opinion.

    • JustAnotherWriter says:

I agree with the movie thing. The books were amazing but the movie would’ve been confusing for someone who hasn’t read the books. I went on the opening night with some of my friends and one of them hadn’t read the book and she was totally confused and didn’t like the movie. I’d hate to see them make a movie out of Gallagher Girls and have people not read the books because they didn’t like the movie. It really depends on who makes the movie though. In my opinion the director for The Hunger Games movie didn’t do a good job and I’m glad they hired a new director for the second one.

  23. I’m very glad that you are not writing things simply to follow a trend. You’re books are awesome because you write what the story needs not what the readers think they want. (In my experience, most of the time reader don’t even know what they really want until the author surprises them with something so awesome that the readers would never have expected it. That defiantly happened to me with Out of Sight Out of Time; in fact, the surprise factor is part of the reason why I think it is one of the best books I have ever read. Ever.)

  24. Happy 4th of July Ally. Thank you so much for writing these blogs to organize our brains of what comes next and why. I cannot wait for Heist 3 it sounds very captivating in every way and I know we will all love it.

  25. thansk sooo much

  26. Chameleon_Duchess_Peacock_Bookworm says:

Thanks so much for doing the Q and A, Ally.
Just a question, Ally, do you prefer the Hunger Games or Twilight???

    I’m a Twilighter but ya know. ;)

    • Nothing_Is_Ever_What_It_Seems_ says:

Me too, I mean about the Twilight thing and I wanna know too. :) . Twilight (and Gallagher Girls) will always be number 1 for me. But your definatly my fave author because you right amazing books and blog and tweet too.
And this is totally late but I hope you had a nice 4th of July. (Live in the UK so I have no clue what that is, I just know Katy Perry sings about it in Firework so I guess it has something to do with Sparklers/Fireworks??).
      Hah.
      xxx.
      :) . Hahahaha

      • LOL! The 4th is our Independence day in America. And it’s kind of a tradition for us to set off fireworks. We have like parades and wave flags, and honor our soldiers.

  27. felicia says:

I wish people would stop asking the movie question. And also the other 2 or 3 questions that are asked and answered every 2 months or so. Google the question and more than likely there will be a link to one of the many blog’s Ally has done on those questions. Not to mention, they are listed on her tumblr. And if writers could write books as fast or on the subject that their readers want, almost everyone would be a writer. Good writers go with their story and dont change it to please any particular readers idea. And people need to stop being whiners about when the books get published. Sure the wait sucks but the books are ALWAYS worth it. The authors who put out books every few months usually do not have the best story. Now my rant is over. Thanks and have a nice day!

  28. Thanks so much for answering those questions(: An I love that you’ve known the end of the GG series this whole time, I think that I figured that I read a deleated scene from LYKY, and I’m kinda glad that you cut it, I loved it and reading it, but if it had been in the book then it might just make the book slightly predictable, but the
GG’s books pefect! I love them(: You planned this series amazingly well! I love that it all ties back to itself-like the fifth book and the first. When the circus came up in the fifth book the first thing i thought of was that line in LYKY where Camiie talks about her father looking at the person up on the tight rope and looking like he knew exactly what that felt like. It made my day when I found out that that was the same circus that Cammie and her dad had gotten the cotton candy at and eaten for weeks-that Cammie and her mum talk about-and the same one where she saw the list….goodness, I just loved it(: Especially because if it didn’t have that tie the first and fifth books would feel like they were from almost different series’ because it progressivly gets darker, for lack of a better discription, and I love it!<3

  29. Sounds like a lot of fun. Thanks Ally for answering so many of our questions!

  30. I seriously liked that last answer :) I think we just really don’t want the story to end and that’s why we’re trying to squeeze an epilouge outta you Ally. Sorry bout that…

  31. Youre starting GG6 in the next few weeks?!?!?! Oh my god MAJOR FANGIRL MOMENT!! I LOVE YOU ALLY!!
And seriously, people telling you to write faster really need to become authors and have a million fans shouting at them to write faster. See how they like that stress ;)
Happy 4th! (even though I dont celebrate it because I live in England and have no clue what it even is :) )

  32. The ending of GG6… I can’t even begin to imagine what it will be like. I am so excited for it and Perfect Scoundrels, it is just so full of anticipating excitement that I can’t wait for. (Well, I can, but I’d just rather not.) Thankyou for the Q and A, Ally!

  33. Happy 4th and thanks for the Q and A, i can wait for your books to come out! :D

    • rr_ac_lm says:

Haha LOL we share the same name!! Although it’s kinda creepy coz there’s a seven year old boy that goes to my school called alexis

  34. Anna (Bookworm) says:

Thank you SO much for taking an epilogue for what it is! I am so tired of arguing with people about what an epilogue means. It is NOT just about marriage and children!! I will now point them to this page. P.S. You forgot Canada day! )= Just Kidding.

  35. Oh I’ve been wanting to read Code Name Vertiy so bad!!!
    Happy 4th everyone!!!!

  36. Alexandra B says:

Thabx ally for answering so many awesome Qs even though there were a few in there that get answered all the time and I really felt for you when I saw them. People need to be more respectful of you when saying things like “write faster” and come on guys ally has answered the movie question hundreds of times.
Now that I’ve said that I feel much better. Happy 4th for all you Americans and if you’re Canadian like me happy late Canada Day!

  37. Kristen says:

    thanks for the Q&A Ally!

  38. Kelli (ally carter reader forever) says:

Thank you for answering those questions. Can’t wait for heist 3 and GG6!

  39. okay thank you so much for the information and Happy 4th

  40. I just want to say that i loved that little bit at the end that you wrote about epilogues. I always feel like thats the ending that I want to know (the hero all grown up) but I understand that sometimes it isn’t the ending that fits. Thanks for confirming that :)

  41. Cecilia says:

OMG! You are sooo mean! How are we supposed to wait now that you have just told us that you have a secret but arnt going to tell us?!? Grrrrrr…….

  42. Truthfully, I have no inherit desire to see Zach and Cammie’s kids. It seems like the general point of the Gallagher Girls is how young the students are, showing children could quite possibly take a lot away from that.

Love you, Ally!! Thanks for writing such fantastical, wonderful books!!

Oh wait, one more thing, I really would love to see that final ending, sounds exciting :)

    • Caroline says:

Yeah, I really like how I can relate to the age of the Gallagher Girls and the Blackthorne Boy. The idea of children seems kinda unnecessary to the plot.

I really want to see the ending too!!! I bet it’s phenomenal!! <3

  43. omg im reading code name verity right now too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  44. OMG!!!!!!! I am sooooo EXCITED for GG6 and honestly Ally you are my all time favorite writer and I must say that Zach will forever be in my heart because he is so amazing even though he can be questioning at points but that is what makes the series so AMAZING!!!! I am sad to hear that GG6 is probably your last book because as everyone has said “We don’t want it to end.” I have so much excitment and am re-reading the series for who knows how many times now and I still get excited and sad and mad at all the same points and it just amazes me how much reading can enhance my life!
You have no reason to rush because people that rush are usually sloppy and sloppy people make mistakes and I know that you want GG6 to be the best it can be so TAKE YOUR TIME!!! You are the only one that gets to tell the real story, us readers can only hope and chance what we don’t like. I haven’t read the Heist Society… YET. I promise to get to it before summer ends I have plans to enjoy it as much as the GG series.
You are an amazing person, writer and have inspired me to do so much with my time.
    Thank you Ally!!!!!!! :D
P.S. all my capitalization is excitment because I really get exicted about your books! It sounds harsh but I can’t just call you up so I can only hope you take it as a compliment.

  45. Perfect Scoundrals looks so cool, I can’t wait. I think Zach and Cammie should get married and everything, but if there was an epilouge I think it would be more about everyone (Bex, Liz, Macey, ect.) and how they’re all spies and having cool spy adventures, not necessarily kids.

  46. Hi i love the GG series and the Heist scociety sereies. I own all the gg books and one of the HS books.
I’m not saying that you have to, but could you consider to write a book about cammie, Zach, bex, macey, or liz when they were younger (children)? Thanks

  47. Hey Ally!

You can write whatever ending you want, you don’t have to listen to all suggestions! But I think all the readers (including me) want is a lot of Zammie moments in GG6, along with a really awesome finale!

  48. Samantha says:

As strange as it might be, I think that Cammie and our dear Zachary, wil not have something…. solid. (I cant think of a word to better express myself.)
I think the end will leave us lingering on a conclusion, on something uncertain; that we as readers have to kind of have to fill in the blanks.(If thats even possible due to the uncertainty.) Just as Ally said, not everything is “black and white” or tangible, concrete, and simple cold, hard fact. Sometimes it’s a little gray.

  49. Rebecca Baxter says:

Hi Ally, I just wanted to say that I am loving the Gallagher series, I have read each book at least 3 times ! and that was just in the past week! I am looking forward to reading GG6, when I thought GG5 was the last book I cried! I love Zach and Cammie, they are so cute together! I was hoping that you would write a story about everyone thoughts during Cammies disappearance when I happened to stumble upon thegallagheracademy.com The short stories were just was I was hoping for! I am wondering if you only planned to write 10 ? could you write another one about everyones reaction to Mrs Morgan receiving Cammies call? Espically Zachs and Bex’s reactions ;) thankyou

  50. I’m from Oklahoma and my county (And like ALL the ones surrounding it) had a burn ban and my dad is a firefighter so I had an extremely UN-firecrackery holiday. Boooo!!!

  51. Tiffany Bridgmon says:

I notice a lot of people don’t want an epilogue but i would love one i didn’t even think of one thll you said u don’t know if you’re doing one .I love when i get to see how it all ends good or bad because it gives me this feeling of completeness.

  52. HEY ALLY!!! Just wondering when we’ll get some news on the Heist Society Movie. Please notify me!!!!

  53. Katherine says:

Hey Ally! big fan of the Gallagher sires!!!!! I think if you want to do a movie you should do an independent film! independent films don’t cost a lot of money and it will give a chance to actors and actresses who aren’t famous. i think (if you do diced to do the movie) that every one who sees it will LOVE it!!!!!

  54. Ally, i’ve been you #1 fan ever since I was roaming the school library andI picked up “Don’t Judge a Girl by Her Cover” and I though “This might be cool” and when I read it, I hooked up with GG series! I have a queston, Ally. Did Zach have his first kiss with Cammie? If, so that scence when he kisses Cammie in Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy is super sweet! You are my fav author of all time. Also, what will the sixth book be called?
